Events Bar Manager

We are excited to offer a fantastic new role for The Mowbray and The Chimney House. A full time Events Bar Manager - responsible for The Bar at The Mowbray, our new outdoor bar - Up On The Roof, our new Bar Service at The Chimney House and in time - our new bar at our third site.

We are a small, independently owned family business offering a unique role to be a part of a busy, passionate and creative team who host daily events and hospitality experiences. 

We are looking for an authentic, self motivated individual with a ‘can-do’ attitude to join our team to be a large part of the delivery of our busy schedule of events. We are looking for someone brimming with sound ideas who can not only articulate why and how but who has the ability to implement them creatively and commercially. 

This is the perfect role for anyone who has a sincere dedication to running a creative, profitable world class bar with a great passion for hospitality with a clear understanding and enjoyment of this industry in terms of evenings and weekend work. 

You will be responsible for the Bar Team and all bar experiences alongside the newly appointed Head of Event Delivery and Head of House at The Mowbray and The Chimney House.

Our events span from weekday meetings/conferences and smaller private dining to 150 seated weddings and private dining events to sell out supper clubs at the weekends. Our House events series also include our very popular Up On The Roof feasts. 

Excitingly the role in time expands to include full involvement to deliver our third site - another restoration of another iconic Sheffield property into a brand new concept. This is another exciting chance to make your mark in the hospitality and events industry and plenty of scope to develop your career both personally and professionally.

This is a full time salaried role - and you must have 2-3 years proven experience of working and managing a bar environment and a genuine desire to jump head and heart first into our business and to hit the ground running.

The Role Involves


Creating and developing seasonal drinks menus for both venues in keeping with The Mowbray Kitchen

Being ‘hands on’ pre, during and post service and leading by example. We are not looking for a ‘directing from the sidelines’ manager! 

Creating and developing ‘House’ drinks including spirits 

Recruiting, training and incentivising the bar team

Reporting, forecasting and being responsible for your own targets and those of your team

You will be responsible for running and developing a profitable and creative cocktail bar and will take care and control of stock, suppliers and drinks across both sites to begin with and the third site soon

You will be solely responsible for exceptional bar standards and bar management, overseeing the care and cleaning of both venues.  

Ideally you’ll be passionate about infusing, fermentation and accessing the knowledge of our chefs to create drinks that are interesting and exceptional

You will also work closely alongside our Head of House, Head of Event Delivery and The Mowbray Kitchen to ensure a flawless event experience for our customers with our seasonality and ingredient led ethos at the heart of everything we do. 

Key holder responsibilities and overseeing events up to the end of event and breakdown

You will also be given training to lead events and will be involved in assisting at both venues when required. 

About You


We are looking for a great personality, someone who is well presented and who takes great pride in their work. 

You must be an excellent ‘all-rounder’ - self motivated and highly organised individual who values beautiful environments, exacting customer service and understands the commercial side of the business. 

You must have a genuine passion for food, wine and cocktails and be able to talk knowledgeably and confidently about these integral parts of our business. 

You must have a natural curiosity for new ideas, new ways and have a passion for improving your knowledge. 

You will have the natural ability to lead a team, have a team player attitude and understand how to deliver a fantastic experience for our customers. 

You will also have the ability to look beyond the day to day and look at the bigger picture for the business. 

You must be computer literate, be able to demonstrate great organisational skills, great on the phone and be a real people person!

Many of our events are in the evenings and at the weekend - so you must be able to wholeheartedly embrace this and get ready to be plunged into the busy and rewarding world of events. 

You will work with and report into senior management.

Your day to day will be in two beautiful and creative environments which are busy, bustling, vibrant and very much people centric so we are looking for someone with a passion and commitment for great service and customer experience.

You will also spend time working in the multi award winning design studio 93ft which is based above The Mowbray and where our senior management team are headquartered. 

Delivering events at both The Chimney House and The Mowbray means you must have the ability to work flexible hours, including day, night and weekends.
