Events & Wedding Venue Operations Manager

We are a busy, established, award winning Sheffield events business preparing to launch our third venue in late Summer, 2024. We are looking for an outstanding Operations Manager to join our team to take us through launch and the exciting onwards journey into 2025 and beyond.

ABOUT US

We are in our 16th year of creating and running first class events at our venues.

We are a thriving independently owned family business offering a unique role to be a part of a busy, passionate and creative team who host daily events and hospitality experiences at The Mowbray, Neepsend, The Chimney House, Kelham Island and our new venue The Victoria. 

Our events span from presenting corporate weekday meetings/conferences to 150 seated weddings and private dining events to sell out House Events - including supper and lunch club as well as our popular al fresco ‘Up On The Roof’ feasts. 

The third site - The Victoria, Neepsend is 3 years in the making - a magnificent restoration of a historic Sheffield property into a brand new events concept with a large outdoor space, multiple events rooms and a flagship kitchen and bar - already with a waiting list.

YOU MUST BE

As an Operations Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-into-night operations of our company and ensuring smooth and efficient processes. This is a key leadership role that requires strong organisational skills, excellent problem-solving abilities, and the ability to work well under pressure.

You must be experienced and dedicated and have a proven track record of successfully managing multiple venues and realising their potential at all times.

You must be knowledgeable and experienced in all aspects of senior management including rota management, financials and in-depth reporting. You will be able to keep on top of work-flows and systems and have an exacting eye for detail in every aspect of our operation including health and safety and financial reporting and controls.

You must be experienced at managing and directing teams across multiple sites.

Astute and knowledgeable in managing multiple busy Cocktail Bars - and have a real passion for cocktails, training, systems, procedure, reporting and team management. 

You must be able to build a team to create a world class bar and a brilliant team alongside a second to none group of suppliers and brands - with an up to date knowledge of industry and consumer trends. 

Energetic, passionate and diligent and an excellent team player - but also a natural and professional leader, able to calmly delegate. You will be confident to transfer your skills and experience that will inform, inspire and develop other members of the team.

You must have proven experience in the industry - and bring passion, creativity and enthusiasm and an astute level of professionalism into everything you do. 

THIS POSITION INVOLVES

You will report directly to the owners of the business and will also work closely with the Head of Business. You’ll also work directly with our Head Chef and Head of Finance, the event delivery team and work efficiently alongside our Sales & Booking Team. 

You will manage the existing team to ensure smooth day-to-day operations, exceptional customer experience, and ongoing performance reviews of event businesses

You will be responsible for increasing income and target setting - you will be confident in working with KPIs and influencing performance across the business. You must have a solid understanding of financials along with a proven track record of driving profitability whilst ensuring standards are maintained.

Collaborate with other departments to streamline processes and improve overall efficiency

Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers, vendors, and other external partners

Monitor industry trends and developments to stay informed of best practices

Driving operational excellence across all events, including maintaining food and beverage GPs, labour cost percentages, and stockholding within set targets.

You must be able to report, forecast and be responsible for your own targets and those of your team with a good knowledge of budgeting and cost control

You will lead and mentor Events Managers and team to foster their development, ensuring their alignment with company objectives and targets.  

Create a strategy and drive event team management including recruitment, training and incentivising performance. 

Hands on ‘operational’ event delivery through weekdays and weekends and team management

You will also work alongside The Mowbray Kitchen to ensure a flawless event experience for our customers with our seasonality and ingredient led ethos at the heart of everything we do. You will work closely with our Head Chef to maximise all potential in telling our food stories to inspire our customers.

Ideally a minimum of 4 years experience of multiple venues or event management

Strong leadership skills and a proactive, can-do attitude

You will also have the ability to look beyond the day to day and look at the bigger picture for a successful business strategy. 

Works well under pressure and to deadlines

Ability to remain calm during periods of high volume or unusual events, whilst remaining driven to complete your tasks.

You must be an excellent ‘all-rounder’ - self motivated and highly organised individual who values beautiful environments, exacting customer service and understands the commercial side of the business. 

You will have the natural ability to lead a team, have a team player attitude and understand how to deliver a fantastic experience for our customers. 

You must be computer literate, be able to demonstrate great organisational skills and be a genuine people person

Many of our events are in the evenings and at the weekend - so you must be able to wholeheartedly embrace this - and get ready to be plunged into the busy and rewarding world of events. 

You must have the ability to work flexible hours, including day, night and weekends.

PLACE OF WORK

Your day to day will be in two - soon to be three - beautiful and creative environments which are busy, bustling, vibrant and very much people centric so we are looking for someone with a passion and commitment for great service and customer experience.

You will also spend time working in the multi award winning design studio 93ft which is based above The Mowbray and where our senior management team are headquartered. In time - we will move into a new HQ at The Victoria. 

THE ROLE

We offer great rates of pay and an excellent bonus structure based on performance as well as the chance to work in beautiful venues and as part of a like minded, creative and close knit team working towards a common goal which is to deliver world class events. 

This is a full time salaried  role - and you must have at least 4 years proven experience of working in restaurant and events environments and a genuine desire to jump head and heart first into our business and to hit the ground running.
